During the last ten years I have worked on landscapes in the warmer months on-site and still life in the winter in the studio. I find this rhythm of working linked to the seasons comforting and reassuring. Because the landscapes are done alla prima (with minor adjustments in the studio later) they tend to be very small, usually about 9” X 12”. The still life pieces are more varied in scale but also tend to be smaller. I also make prints but of late have confined myself to the woodcut.
I make art as communication both to others and to myself, but I have never felt the need to aggressively market or show the work. It seems to get out of the studio by one means or another. For me it is enough to have the means and opportunity to make art, the rewards come from the work itself, and the occasional connection it makes with other minds.
